Palazzo Altieri, Roma 1997, 5 of 5. Printed Later Chromogenic Lambda Color Photograph. Mounted and framed.
Detail Description
In the heart of Rome's historical centre, stands this magnificent example of Roman
Baroque, whose imposing façade overlooks the splendid Church of Jesus.
Work on the construction of the palace began in 1650 by architect Giovanni Antonio
De Rossi, to whom the last descendants of the noble and powerful Altieri family,
Cardinals Giovanni Battista and Emilio, the future Pope Clement X (1670-76)
commissioned a construction for a prestige private residence.
Inside, true marvels decorated the luxurious salons: polychrome marble, tapestries
of gold brocade, tapestries, and fine furniture. The splendid paintings and frescoes
on the ceilings and walls of this noble residence are the work of illustrious artists of
the time and Massimo Listri’s “Palazzo Altieri, Roma,” offers an intimate look at an
aristocratic interior seemingly throwing the doors wide open upon this magnificent
17th century Baroque space including the salon aptly captured by Listri.
Palazzo Altieri was a symbol of power and prestige at the time, and today Listri
deftly captures the atmosphere of the impressively opulent space though his intuitive
sense of perspective and composition revealing a tranquil and beautiful world for all
to see.
