A small George I, white, polychrome and gilt Japanned bureau cabinet, in pine and oak wood, possibly decorated in Edinburgh or in Germany by an English japanner.

Detail Description
Throughout decorated with scenes of Chinoiserie depicting exotic birds, flowers,
foliage and figures in a landscape with pagodas and pavillions.
The upper section with an arched moulded corniche above a mirrored door to reveal
an interior with various pigeonholes, small drawers and two pilasters with secret
mechanisms; the coeval mirror set into a bevelled frame.
The bureau section with a hinged fall-front, enclosing a similarly fitted interior, with
a secret compartment, and the lower section with three drawers, resting on bracket
feet. All the interiors are decorated with scenes of Chinese daily life.
